What we say: A modern day classic. Used by some of the top athletes in the world this shoe has been instrumental in climbing some of the top competition problems. A tight fitting technical performance shoe that is at home both in the wall and out on the rock.

What La Sportiva say: The Skwama is one of La Sportiva's most popular high-end models, made for maximum performance in bouldering and sport climbing. It is suited to a vast range of terrain from steep overhangs to delicate slab climbing.

With it's single hook and loop Velcro strap and the slipper like fit the shoe supports you in finding that perfect fit, without sacrificing the ability to take the shoe on and off easily. The upper is constructed with suede leather and features microfiber which is only used around the heal.

Using La Sportiva's P3 technology to help to maintain it's aggressive shape over the life span of the shoe. Combine this with the split-sole, which is designed to reduce deformation when edging while still allowing stability and support in a soft shoe, you end up with a high performance shoe that stays high performance! The heel is constructed with two types of rubber and integrates with La Sportiva's S-Heel technology which helps to ensure a secure heel and minimal slippage while heel hooking.  The shoe also utilises a large toe patch which goes all the way up to the strap, this provides a large surface area to use when toe hooking. Skwama uses the ever-popular Vibram XS Grip 2 which will make you feel secure on the tiniest footholds all the way up to larger volume smears.

Bangers!

The Skwamas are great shoes for pretty much everything! I believe that they're a good option if you have a slightly wider forefoot. They tend to stretch considerably (the most of any shoes I have bought really, up to perhaps 1-1.5UK sizes of stretch) so I downsize quite considerably to ensure that they have a tight fit in their later life. They start off as really quite stiff but soften up quickly and are amazing for smearing while still retaining some good edging power. I've used my pairs for everything ranging from hard bouldering to scary trad and despite picking up different models of shoes over the years I have always kept coming back to the Skwamas. The moulded heel cup may be my only real downside with these shoes.

Great all round shoe!

Having had several pairs of these I find them a perfect all round performance shoe and I even wore a pair in a large bouldering competition. The shoes were great but unfortunately my climbing wasn't...
